killing an unwanted tree

Question
A few years ago we planted several Blue Spruce trees in our yard.  We have enjoyed the trees as much as the birds have enjoyed living within.  The problem is that the birds have left a few mulberry seeds that decided to grow.  I live in central Illinois and have used Tordon many times on the farm.  I was worried about using that product that close to the Blue Spruce so I contacted Dow and they said it was a possibility it might kill the spruce and recommended not using tordon.  They also had no recommendations to fix the problem.  Hope your can help.   Thanks Clint

Answer
Tordon will kill the spruce. I would use Roundup an spray the foliage of the unwanted trees making sure you do not get the spray on the foliage of the spruce. In stead of spraying if the sprouts are small you may want to wipe the Roundup on the foliage--a sponge type paint brush works well. The Roundup will kill any green plant it get on so make sure you keep it off the plants you do not want killed.
