Hemlock Tree

Question
We live in Indiana, and had a person hired to trim our bushes, and he decided to trim our young beautiful Hemlock tree.  I couldn't believe that he actually topped the tree, along with just ramdonly cutting off the ends of various branches.  Looks like he decided it needed trimmed and shaped like a Christmas tree.  He also cut off all the branches at the bottom so that there is about a 6-8" gap from the ground.  Is the tree now doomed???

Answer
No it is not "doomed' but the lower branches will not grow back. The upper branches over time will grow but if the top was cut off the tree will take some time to reach the original height. A side branch will become the new top leader and you will have a slight crook in the main trunk for a while until the tree get larger.
