chinese dogwood - fertilizing

Question
Location - 55+ active adult community in PA Poconos
Many Chinese dogwoods 7' - 8' tall planted about 3 years ago, all pretty healthy.
Fertilizer - what kind, how much, how often.
Many people here use "HollyTone" for everything including the dogwoods, not just for azaela, holly, rhodo, acid soil plants.
Is this OK for the dogwoods or would something else be better?
Thanks much for your help.
Ron

Answer
If they are healthy and green I would not fertilize them at all. IF you feel the need I would use 10-10-10 fertilizer at the rate of 1 lb per inch of trunk diameter scattered around the tree and watered in good. Apply the fertilizer just before a rain storm and you do not need to water it in. I would not fertilize more than once a year or two at the most.
