Some type of bug eating my Crimson King Leaves

Question
Bug
Bug
Good Afternoon,

I planted a Crimson King about 6 weeks ago and noticed that some of the leaves had tiny little holes in them.  It has gotten worse and when I was inspecting the trees, I found a beetle of some sort eating away.  What action should I take if any.  I have attached a picture of my hungry friend.

Thanks so much

Answer
This is a Japanese beetle. You can either spray the foliage with an insecticide called Orthene making sure all foliage is covered or  there is a product that will control and prevent Japanese beetles form defoliating the tree. It is called Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect Control. It is applied to the soil around the tree and the roots will transport it to the leaves and when insects feed on the leaves they are killed. It will protect the tree for the growing season. Check with your local nursery for this product. Here is a web link to more information on this product.
