Tulip poplar trees


Question
This year our tulip poplars have been attacked by some insect that sucks the juice and secretes a sticky substance which fall onto anything below. The leaves have died all the way to the top and the trees are practically bare. My question is this: will these trees be able to survive or should they be destroyed?

Hello:

It sounds like you are dealing with a bad Aphid infestation. Provided that the the trees are in the right location and otherwise free of disease problems, you should be able to control this pest.
