Shrubs stopped growing.

Question
Hi Larry,
I have a small problem, I have obtained some shrubs to be used as hedges. I told my local landscaper what height & type of hegde I wished to make. I purchased 3 different types of shrubs, told to plant them each at least 3 meters appart, with a hole of a meter sq. per each.
The two type of shrubs have in 2 years grown from original half-meter to approx.double. Expect for one type. They are still the same height as when they were planted. It starts growing green pointed leaves, which then turns to yellow-green. Then dies, the plants continue to grow leaves, but dies shortly. Now, what do you consider to be my problem, and how can I rectify, without necessary replacing? The soil, is on the clay side, but I have added a mixture of horse manure and "field" decay matter with soil.
Please, this is my best discription as a beginner. Thanks for your assistance.

Answer
hi lin
poor drainage and to much uncomposted organic matter. you are suficating and burning your shrubs. i suspect if you amend the clay with peat moss and ease up on the manure, watch your watering and you should see marked improvement
try to water the shrubs every 4 days only. Good Luck  Larry  ;-)
