substituting a shrub

Question
We had a landscape plan done for our front yard and we've followed, to the letter, all of her suggestions.  However she wants us to put in a slender hinoki cypress (chamaecyparis obtusa gracillis) but we're finding the cost of $250 too prohibitive.

Is there something you could suggest to substitute it with?  Something that looks somewhat similar and has similar features (ie. height, shape, colour)

We live in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada (around 60 miles north of Detroit,MI on the southern tip of Lake Huron)

Thanks,

Rod

Answer
Hi Rod
For me to substitute something already suggested is hard because i do not know the site conditions. However if a cypress was suggested i am assumeing it is for heavy soil
and sort of dry. my only suggestion would be possibly a junipher of the same habit you would have to shop around at the nursuries but juniphers are a little cheeper than cypress   Good Luck to you   Larry  ;-)
