Euyonomous Shrub

Question
We live in Princeton WV. It is located in the front yard.  Is this shrub suppose to have any kind of bloom?  It is common for hornets to be attracted to this shrub and make a nest in this?  How can I controll these pest?

Answer
Ella,
It is common for bees and hornets to nest in euonymus shrubs. They are either going for the pollen in the plants flowers or feeding on scale honeydew (a sugary susbstance excreted by scale insects).
To control them, you will need to spray the plant with normal wasp and bee killer that you can buy at any store. This will not stop the hornets from returning, but it will control the population that is there.
Good luck.
