meyer lemon tree problems

Question
I got my meyer lemon tree about 6 months ago.  I has been doing really good until lately.  My dirt is mixed with sand and I ferterlize it once a week by mixing epson salts and miriclegrow with the water.  The leaves are dark green and look healthy but they are all falling off and the branches are turning brown.  I hope you can help.

Thanks Pam

Answer
Pam,
The damage that you describe sounds somewhat like low temperature or winter injury. Is this tree indoors? The reason I ask this question is that Meyers lemon trees react badly to sudden drops in temperatures. If it is inside, then the problem could be that you have been overfertilizing it. I would cut back on the fertilization to once a month, not once a week. Too much salt in the soil can burn the root systems and cause these types of problems. Also make sure that the soil is not staying too wet. The soil should be moist but not saturated. Try cutting back the fertiliztion first and see if the tree produces new leaves. I hope this helps.
