meyer lemon leaf problems

Question
I have a potted Meyer lemon, and it has lemons that are just starting to turn yellow. But it is also getting leaves that are, for lack of a better description, turning shiny and sticky, look oily, then drop off. I have lost about half a dozen leaves so far. I haven't been able to put the tree out on my deck much lately because it has been storming like crazy, so maybe that has something to do with it. Help, please!

Answer
Ann,

The sticky substance you see is called honeydew. This is the sugary excrement of aphids. If look under the leaves and along the branches, you will see them.

Treat the aphids with horticultural soap or oil as many times as it takes to control the entire population.

Good luck.
