A dying shrub

Question
we have a shrub in our yard and it was beautiful last year it came back this year and a different shoot was coming from the bottom an dmy husband cut it off and the shrub started wilting and we thought it was due to heat but ultimately it browned and a small shoot did come back but it also dried up. My question is has it completly died and how could we save this it is partly green and white a beautiful plant it is killing me to see it die any suggestions welcome. thank you. Karuna

Answer
Karuna,
From what you have described, there is a good possibility that the plant is a euonymus bush. Check the inside of the plant. Are the branches covered in a white "dust". This type of plant gets attacked by euonymus scale regularly. This insect if left untreated will kill the plant. Spray the insides with horticultural oil and hose off the scale after a few days.
Was it recently transplanted or moved? this could have caused transplant shock which can be fatal.
I would recommend fertilizing it in the fall and in the spring to see if there is any life left.
Good luck.
