What causes yellow leaves as well as not holding leaves?

Gardenias are acid loving plants, they require a more acidic fertilizer than standard ones. The plants are yellowing probably due to an imbalance in the soil acidity.

I would recommend fertilizing them with Miracid now. This will help encourage new, stronger growth.
