cyprus trees

Question
How do I identify & move 7-8' tapered cyprus trees?  All 9 are beautiful, maybe emerald green, very healthy, but planted in the WRONG PLACE.  My daughter just bought a 52 year old home in Augusta, GA & these trees run in a line , central in the yard, touching each other in her back yard- dividing the yard left & right. Like I said, wrong place. The soil is black sand, easily dug. A trowel sinks in, just leaning on it.  She wants to move them across the yard near the fence line as privacy to the back yard.

Answer
Pat,

To identify the trees, I would recommend taking a cutting to a local nursery, they should be able to tell the variety.

To move them, I would recommend waiting until the fall when the weather cools down. Dig out as large a root ball as you can. Dig out the new holes one and a half times the size of the root ball that you just dug. Make sure to water them until the ground freezes and incorporate some granular fertilizer into the back fill.

Good luck,
Ed Gulliksen
