meyer lemon fruit drop

Question
Hi.  I have  a potted meyer lemon at least ten years old. I have grown it successfully for years,  but the last couple of years the fruit does not set well.  It has gone from producing dozens of lemons to just a few here and there.
I fertilize monthly with an acidic fertilizer and occasionally with  a balanced fertilizer.  I live in Maine and grow outdoors in the summer.  It is currently heavily in bloom and has been for a couple of months,   but only a few of the lemons are adding size while most are dropping.
It was last repotted about three years ago. Any suggestions?
thanks,
Rod

Answer
Rod,

It may be time to repot it again. There may not be enough soil to support the root mass the tree has developed. Try pruning back on the top to reduce the demand on the root system. This should help to increase the size of the fruit. Repot after the tree goes dormant.

Good luck,
