transplanting shrubs

Question
I would like to transplant some blue rug junipers and a crape myrtle tree (both about 2 years old) and want to know the best time to do this. I live in the Atlanta, GA area and both of these plants are too big for their current location. Would it be ok to transplant them now or do I need to wait until the growing season is over? Thanks.

Answer
Donna,

It is risky to transplant in the summer, I would recommend waiting until the Fall and the cooler temperatures. If you must move them now, make sure that you water them heavily before, after and for the rest of the summer. The root balls need to be as large as you can possibly handle so you are saving the majority of the root systems.

Good luck,
