What roses are best?

Question
I live northwest of Atlanta and have a pergola on my back deck that gets afternoon sun.  First, is there a climbing rose that would work there?  And, second, is there one that I could plant in a pot and leave outside all year?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Beth and thank you for your question!  The answer is yes, yes, yes!
There are some stunning roses which would work in your situation.
First, you can plant climbing roses in pots, but it is a lot of upkeep compared to planting them in the ground.  The region you live in is heaven for most roses; let me ask, do you have to keep them in pots due to soil problems, or for aesthetics? Let me know, because it will narrow down the list of roses that would work well in that situation.

If you can plant them in the soil, I'll have quite a large list of roses for you.  You can help to narrow this down by telling me your favourite colours in roses, how long is the pergola and how many roses would you need to cover it & should they all be the same, if you would like them to be fragrant, if you want them to bloom more than once per year, would you prefer them to be thornless, and lastly how tall is your pergola and do you want the rose(s) to cover it?

I really look forward to hearing from you! When I send your list of roses to you, I'll  make sure that they're all available or on the market, and where you can get them.

Best wishes,
Eirinn
