Rose transplant

Question
I live in the Bay Area, I was having a fence repaired and had to dig out two large rose plants this month, I had them dig
them out with as much soil as possible.  After they were put back in their place the branches fell over, I presume the roots were damaged, is there anyway to save them?  They produce beautiful armoatic roses?

Answer
Roses will re-act in that way when you move them without cutting them back. Prune your roses back hard to at least 18 inches tall. Water daily and soak them well, as the roots are damaged and can't take the water or nutrients up until new feeder roots grow back. The reason the roses are wilting is because the damaged roots can't support the amount of growth so cutting them back will help. Don't give them any fertilizer as the roots can't use it now, wait until you see new growth coming. Watering is the secret to help the roses survive. They make droop all summer but they won't die.
