hypericum bush yellow flowers

Question
I got beautiful yellow flowers on my bushes for the last 3 years. This year nothing.  Could it be that there's  more shade, that I didn't prune back until late, late spring, or that we had such a cold winter on East Coast? I did fertilize. Can I expect any flowers this year or next?

Answer
HiSusan,
Thanx for your question.  My guess is that you waited too late in the spring to prune.  Prune blooming bushes right after they bloom.  This is because most blooming occurs on new growth.  The new growth is completed by early spring.  Prune right after blooming to tidy up the shape.  If you don't prune any more this year, you should see blooms return next year.  I hope this helps.
Tom
