common daylilies

Question
zone four, west central MN
my bed of daylilies is at the bottom of a small slope in a long sweep of about a hundred feet by three feet. they are yellowish this year and i am wondering if they need food or water. we had a lot of rain in june and it was colder than normal. until today, we had a half inch in july. they are in a clay soil, full sum and are flowering fine, but the leaves look like heck. this is their fourth year and they have room to expand. if it is food, what and when.

Answer
If this is the 4th year, my best guess is that they really need to be divided.  You need to water them a little more also, as it is their prime growing time and they need all the water they can get.
You can divide them in the fall. They are VERY hardy plants and will withstand thinning out.
