Zinna Seeds

Question
How long does it take for zinna seeds to germinate. I live in northeast Kansas.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Thanx for your question.  I live in NE Kansas too (KC area).  If you plant zinnias in a pot indoors, it usually takes 7-10 days for them to germinate.  If you start them outdoors now, it could take longer because the soil must be very warm (at least 70 degrees F) for germination to occur.  Because the soil is cool and wet right now, you run the risk of the seeds rotting.  I'd start my seeds indoors and then wait for the second set of true leaves before planting them outdoors or wait until we have consistent temps in the 70s-80s (around mid to late May).  I hope this helps.
Tom
