perenials, Astilbe, Phlox and Foxglove

Question
My little garden is doing just fine, with roses, clematis, grapes, blackberries, strawberries, columbine and other perenials, all blooming -- but for the above three -- Astilbe, no fronds, phlox, tall and healthy but no flowering and foxglove, foliage is fine but no flowers -- so strange -- as they all bloomed last year! Do they only bloom every other year?

Answer
Hello Annamay,
Thanx for your question.  Did you fertilize these plants?  It sounds to me like they got too much Nitrogen.  Did you use Miracle Grow?  Actually, your phlox and foxglove may still bloom.  The Astilbe should have bloomed in the late spring.  All of these plants are perennials.  Some foxgloves are biennials and if they bloomed last year the plants that resulted from any seed will not bloom this year but will bloom next year.  Sounds like too much Nitrogen to me.  Post a follow up and let's talk this problem through.
thx,
Tom
