bottle palm, browning and yellow leaves

Question
i have a bottle palm that i planted about a year ago and some of its leaves have brown and yellow edges. is this normal? when and how often should i fertilize? and what kind of fertilizer? thank you.

Answer
Hey Brian, Bottles don't need to be fertilized but 3 times a year with a well balanced "palm fertilizer", they are pretty problem free, the yellow/brown edges are really normal for the lower fronds; check the boot (the part that wraps around the trunk) see if it is ready to be excised from the palm. Bottles have a unique petiole (part that connects the frond to the palm), it wraps around the palm and needs to be cut with a sharp instrument to separate it. Bottom line here is as long as the newer fronds closer to the crown are healthy, then don't be overly concerned. Nick
