Potted Mums

Question
I have a couple of potted mums that I have kept on my porch....what do I do with them through the winter months...the blossoms have died off...thank you.

Answer
Keep your Mums watered and cool enough to chill without freezing the roots.  You did not mention your location, but if water freezes, it is going to be cold.

At the end of the Winter of course they go out in the Spring sunshine.  But you knew that.

It is best to remove spent flowers before they are shriveled.  That way they don't spend a lot of energy making worthless seeds.

Until they are dormant, they will need full sun, Catherine.

That said, understand that many of today's beautiful Mum hybrids do not really live beyond 1 seasons, 2 at the most.  No reflection on you, Catherine.  On the other hand, maybe you'll get lucky.

Good luck and keep me posted with any followups.
