Question
i am planning to put in some new flowers this spring.i live in North Carolina.I saw some Mexican Heather at the local hardware store.i liked the way it looked and the plants looked healthy, however i want plants that return year after year.i have bad knees and can't do a lot of digging and replanting.
also i was wondering which plants have tubers,i heard this name several years ago, when i ask a friend for a tuber from one of her iris,s she thought i had lost my mind
what kind of plants do you recomend for my yard.

Answer
Hi Sherry,
Thanx for your question.  Here is a link to North Carolina State University and a list of perennials good for North Carolina.

Mexican Heather I don't think is hardy in North Carolina and should be treated as an annual.  As far as tubers go, dahlias, some begonias and elephant ears have tubers.  Irises grow from rhizomes.  I hope this helps.
Tom
