lycoris, pink magic lily

Question
I am starting the process of digging 4 large clumps with about 10 bulbs per clump from a neighbors yard. I live in zone 5. Do I keep the bulbs together or pull them apart? How deep do I plant them? I have to dig them now beccause she is selling her house. Fertilizer? Thank you, Mary

Answer
Hi Mary,
Thanx for your question.  Pink magic lilies also know regionally as:  naked ladies, resurrection lilies and surprise lilies are very hardy and very pretty.  I've got some in my Kansas City front and back yards.  Dig the clumps up carefully and separate the bulbs.  Plant individually about 1 foot apart as they multiply rapidly.  Plant them about 6 inches deep and sprinkle some bone meal in the hole before planting the bulb.  Water well and then leave them alone.  They should erupt with lots of strap-like foliage next spring.  It will disappear by summer and then long about August, the ladies/lilies will rise up in all their glory.  I hope this helps.
Tom
