bogenvelia tree

Question
I would like to know hoe to get my bogenvelai tree to bloom again. We are in Georgia and the tree is beautiful, but all green. It has bloomed once but now it just keeps growing green.
Please Help
Thank you

Answer
Hi Sheri,
Thanx for your question.  I recently returned from a trip to Savannah and Tybee Island.  Very beautiful.

Make sure that your bougainvillea is getting full sun for 8 hours a day.  Although they tolerate drought, make sure yours gets a good soaking once a week if no regular rain.  Be careful what you feed it.  High nitrogen fertilizers like lawn fertilizers will make crazy green growth at the expense of blooms.  If you have a yard service or are fertilizing the lawn yourself, make sure the fertilizer run-off isn't affecting your blooming plants and shrubs.  Side dress the plant with well-composted cow or horse manure.

Here is a link to an article from the University of Georgia, regarding flowering vines.

I hope this helps.
