Dear Mr King,
White spots have suddenly appeared on the petals of my phalaenopsis. Why did this occur and how can I fix it?

My guess is that what you have is an infestation of mealy bugs.  These are "cottony" sucking insects that can sap the life out of your plant if that is the cause of the white spots.  Most insecticides will work to rid them as will a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol.  However, it may require several treatments spread out over a week or two.
