Red edge on leaves

Question
Regarding your reply to Katie on the subject of red edges on leaves, does this also apply to cattleya hybrids?  My Momilani Rainbow, repotted a few months ago, and now blooming, shows red on the edges and the leaves slightly wilted.  Velamin is also dark.  What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Hello Dorothy,

Red leaf edges can happen on cattleyas but it is more normal for the leaves turn a light green to yellowish-green color when exposed to lots of direct sunlight.  Red leaf edges can occur on orchids that have red to purple flowers.  Slightly wilted leaves could be due to lack of moisture around the roots which can happen if the potting media was dry when you repotted it.  Dark velamin root coverings could be due to rot or media dust from the repotting.  If the dark roots are soft and mushy, that would mean they are dead and rotten.

Hope this helped.
