Fertilizer

Question
Jim,
I live in Orlando, Florida and have been using 20-20-20 to fertilize my orchids weekly as you had suggested. I believe I can continue fertilizing my orchids year round, but wanted to double check. I have phals, cattleya, cymbidium, and dendrobium.

I also noticed that 20-20-20 is quite expensive and hard to get, I am wondering how hard it is to make my own or if there is a store that may carry them; I checked Home Depot and they don't have it.

Please advise,
Angelo

Answer
Hi Angelo,

Yes, you may feed your orchids year round with the 20-20-20.  Just remember that they may not require watering quite as often in winter.

Living in Orlando, there are probably a number of orchid nurseries and orchid supply places within a short drive (less than 25 miles) of your home.

Here are some places that carry orchid fertilizers in Florida:

OFE Orchid Supplies  www.ofe-intl.com
Orchid Supply   www.orchidsupply.com
Broward Orchid Supply   www.browardorchidsupply.com
Green Barn Orchid Supplies   www.greenbarnorchid.com
R.F. Orchids   www.rforchids.com

You can make your own fertilizer but for a small collection it may not be worth the time and effort.

Hope this helped.
