humidity.

Question
Hi Jim,

Yes, I am very happy to know that at least one of the plants has REALLY spiked! It honestly gives me something to look forward to everyday.

Now, the issue with the watering is that I water the plants at least every 8 days, when the moss feels pretty dry(which has been keeping them healthy). But I learned that even that might be too much since it is already mid-autumn in NY.

The potting media(moss) seems to dry too quickly due to dryness of the air in my apt. All I can do is put the plants on top of a plate of rocks filled with some water. I am planning to buy a humidifier.

Thanks again for your help!

Answer
Hi Theo,

I would be cautious about watering any orchid potted in moss.  The reason for this is because the exposed moss may look and feel dry, the moss within the pot may still fairly moist or wet.  Also, moss tends to dry out slower than more open media.

Yes, placing it on a tray with some pebbles and water will help raise the humidity around it.  A humidifier will not only be good for the orchid but also for you.

Take care and enjoy watching the spike grow! Keep in mind that it may take upwards of 2-3 months before the first bud opens.
