Orchid having crystals under leaves

Question
I have one orchid that appears to not be doing so good. One of her branches has turned brown & it now has what appears to
be crystals under her leaves. I would like to make her better. Please advise.

Answer
Hello Rosemarie,

I am not quite certain what the crystals could be, I have not seen this happen before.

Can you remove some of the crystals by scrapping?  Is it clear or does it have color?

Just had a thought!  Do the crystals look sort of like turtle shells?  If they do, it could be scale.  If it is scale, go to your local garden center and ask for a systemic insecticide that is recommended for orchids.  Use it per the instructions and be sure to follow the safety instructions.  Systemic insecticides work by being taken up by the plant and when the insect bites into the leaf their days are numbered and will soon be dead.

Hope this helped.
