orchid nelly isler

Question
my orchid flowered well for two years but this year it is making lots of leaf growth but no flowers what am I doing wrong?

Answer
Marianne, Burrageara Nellie Isler is a member of the oncidium alliance which prefer bright light to flower.  If you changed the amount of light you are giving the plant, that could account for delayed flowering. My plant of this cross flowers with shorter days during the winter time from November through February so you may just need to be more patient.  Some time an orchid will hold back on flowering even though it is putting on lots of new growth.  This will happen if the plant is being fed with a high nitrogen plant food.  The latter promotes growth but not flowering.  You may want to switch to a high phosphorous plant food (sometimes called a "bloom booster").  Try those two approaches with a pinch of patience and see what results.  I have seen plants withhold flowering for a season or two and then, when conditions are right, it can have a spectacular flowering
