Question
Received this bueaty in bloom a little over a year ago. A couple of months after the blooms died I repotted it splitting it into 2 plants. They both did well and seemed to thrive in my bathroom with bright light , monthly feeding, and watering to soak when almost dry.
The mother plant has spent the last month dying. The other seems fine. It has never bloomed again.
What do I do to get the blooming to occur?, Can I put it oufside on the porch in the shade?, temps are 80- 100 in the summer.. (NC).
This is my first orchid and I am looking for success before I continue collecting..thank you...lisa

Answer
Lisa, perhaps the most common reason for failure to flower is insufficient light.  While you may have adequate light to grow the plant well, light intensity needs to be increased for flowering. The best indicator of light intensity is leaf color. For flowering, the leaves need to be a light green rather than a dark green.  You may also check your fertilizer.  Blooming is sometimes promoted by a "bloom booster" plant food (it should be so labelled).
