Gloxiniz

Question
How can I propagate a Gloxinia kept on my porch in centeral Florida

Answer
Hi Jimmy,

There are two ways you can propagate your Gloxinia.

First, you can divide the tuber (special root) out of which the shoots grow. This is best done in the early spring after the winter dormant period. Be sure that each half of the divided tuber has at least one shoot coming out of it.

The second way is to use leaf cuttings. Cut off a healthy leaf. On the bottom of the leaf, make two cuts across the middle leaf vein about 3/4's of the way through the vein. Then turen the leaf over so the cuts are facing down and pin the leaf to the surface of a moist mix of peat moss and perlite in equal parts. Cover with plastic or glass to keep the moisture and humidity inside. New plants will develop from each of the cuts. When the new plants have their own roots they can be separated from the leaf and put into their own pots.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
