6 inch pot weith elephant ear plant

Question
I am not sure what kinda light these plants need, I have seen the leaf start to rot and get soft right in the middle.

also have a plant that has varigated leaves, with lots of purple shades and little green, tall leaves not very wide at all, and they feel so dry to the touch they are also falling off all dried out, what causes that

Answer
Hi Dorothe,

Elephant ears like lots of bright indirect light. Right in front of a north or east window is the best place for them. The rooted leaf might just be from old age if it is limited to an occasional lower leaf or it might be a fungus problem that should be treated with a fungicide.

Dry leaves have many causes. It could be that the soil got too dried out or the roots have rotted and are no longer absorbing water or the plant is not getting enough light. If you could identify the plant and also describe the light, the pot size, and your watering routine, then I might be able to provide a more specific answer.

Will Creed
