Identfy a house plant

Question
I am having trouble identifying a house plant that was given to me.  I really like the plant, but it seems to be struggling and many of its leaves have fallen off recently.

The biggest problem I am having is finding any information on how to take care of the plant because I have not idea what kind of plant it is.  Can you help me find out its name??

The leaves are very beautiful.  The underside of the leaves are violet.  The topside of the leaf is green with a shiny silver streak down each side.   I have never seen any blossoms on the plant, just the leaves.

Can you help me identify this plant?  Where can I go to get information on how to take care of the plant?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Sara,

It might be a Calathea or a Begonia or a Bromeliad, but in the absence of a photo or a detailed description, including leaf shape and dimensions and stem size and type, I cannot be sure.

If you can e-mail a photo to me at [email protected], that would be best.

Once we have the ID, I can tell you how to care for it.

Regards,
Will Creed
