Massangeana - flowering??

Question
Hi,

I had a plant that resembles Massangeana and, to my surprise, it flowered after about 10 years.  The flower cluster smelled heavenly and it only opened at night.  However, the plant died after moving and I'm heartbroken.  I bought a Massangena because it looked similar to the one I had, but I'm not sure.  Can you help?  I can send you a picture of the one I had if you want to see it.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Connie,

I am sorry you lost your flowering corn plant (Dracaena massangeana). You must be heart-broken.

Please email the photo to me at my address below.

Corn plants flower only sporadically and usually only after they have been in the same pot and same location for many years. A 5 - 10 degree drop in temperature at night and about 12 hours of daylight often triggers the flowers, typically in late fall or late spring or both.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
