IS MY PONYTAIL PLANT GONNA BE OK

Question
I'VE RECENTLY TRANSPLANTED MY PONYTAIL PALM TO ANOTHER POT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHILE I WAS TAKING IT OUT TO PUT IN THE OTHER POT THE SOIL AT THE BOTTOM WAS VERY WET AND IT HAD A ODOR. I PROCEEDED TO TRANSPLANT IN THE OTHER POT WITH NEW SOIL AND I DID NOT WATER IT ANYMORE. THE STEM IS GREEN I HAD TO TAKE OFF THE LEAVES THAT WERE ALL BROWN SO IT WOULNT AFFECT THE REST OF THE PLANT. DO YOU THINK THAT IT WILL SURVIVE OR WILL IT DIE. I KNOW I GOT ROOT ROT BUT HOW CAN I STOP IT FROM DYING? PLEASE HELP ME I LOVE THIS PLANT

Answer
Marie,

How large is your Ponytail palm? How long have you owned it? What is the diameter of the new pot? Are there any leaves left at the top of the plant? Are there any soft spots on the bulb or the neck of the plant? Does the new pot have a drainage hole in the bottom of the pot? How much light does it get? How closse to a window is it? What directions does the window face? Let me know and I will try to give you my best advice.
