caring for spiral bamboo

Answer
Hi Jo,

I assume that the spiral bamboo that you have is growing in water and stones or pebbles. Let me know if this assumption is incorrect.

Hard water will cause the leaf tips to yellow. So will allowing the water level to drop below the uppermost roots. Even one instance of exposing some of the roots to the air will cause the tips to yellow. Finally, poor light will cause these symptoms.

There is nothing you can do to restore the color to the yellowed portions. You can trim the tips off, maintaining the original contour of the leaf so that it does not look cut.

In the long run, you should move your spiral cuttings to soil as these plants begin to deteriorate when left in water for more than a year.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
