Peace Lilly drooping

Question
I have repotted and used new soil. However, I don't think overwatering it was the problem after all. In fact the soil wasn't very wet at all. I guess it must have been the stress of the heat/wind that day I put it outside (it was pretty breezy that day).

But...half of the plant does look better than it did. Half of it is standing upright now, but the other half is still droopy and some leaves are on the floor. I did not water it yet, should I?

I also noticed during repotting that it has some new growth...about three new leaves and a couple flowers. Should I maybe prune it to get the droopy leaves off? If so, what's the best way to prune it? I'm a complete amatur at this stuff...

I took a picture of it this morning, if you'd like me to email it to you let me know.

Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it!

Question -
The pot the plant is in does not have any sort of drainage holes or trays. Should I re-plant it in a different pot, using new, dry soil?

Question -
I have a Peace Lilly in which I put outside one day while cleaning the house. The plant is fairly big, about 14" tall. Temperature outside was about 75 degrees. When I brought the plant back inside the leaves were droopy...very droopy. Almost like it was dying. I watered it and it is still drooping. Some of the leaves have turned dark brown on the edges.

From reading other posts I suspect I have watered it too much and it has root rot. Is there anything I can do for this plant? I received it when my father passed away so it does have some sentimental meaning to me.

Also, why did it droop when I put it outside? I did not water it while it was outside and it looked fantastic before I did this. I had a Peace Lilly once before that did this same thing when I put it outside (you'd think I would have learned from my prior mistake). Unfortuneately, the fate of that plant did not turn out so well...if you know what I mean :(

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Mandi,

Remove the drain tray from under it and let it drain in the sink. Do not water it again until it perks up and feels bone dry.

Peace lillies should never go out in the sun, they come from the jungle floor and cannot take sun or even too much heat. I suspect that heat may have been the problem. They also can't take wind so it may have just been the stress that did it after it was overwatered.

I can't stress enough, do not water a peace lilly until it feels bone dry and very light weight. They are usually in peat based soil which is light so if it feels heavy it is from water.  Water is heavy.

Right now you have a 50% chance of it recuperating. Do now water it! Keep it in a bright but not sunny location. Never put it outside again.

Good luck.

Mandi,

Yes! Repot it with dry soil immediately if there are any roots left. If there are no roots the chances of survival are very slim. I imagine you will find the bottom of the pot to be very wet and smelly, rather stagnant.  No plant should ever be put in a pot without a drainage hole. If you want it in a decorative pot find a plastic pot that will fit inside the decorative pot and then you can remove the plant easily from the decorative pot and let it sit and drain out the excess water. After repotting it do not water it untill it perks up.

Good luck,
Darlene

Answer
Mandi,

Yes, go ahead and water it now and see what happens.  I wouldn't cut the droopy leaves off quite yet. Wait a week or so and see what happens. There is still a chance that some of them will perk up.  If they don't go ahead and prune. I'm glad it wasn't too soggy, it has a better chance to perk back up. In the future be careful not to overwater it. Do not leave it sitting in a drain tray of water and do not water it again until you see that it has been bone dry for a couple of days. You are welcome to email the picture to me at [email protected]
Good luck.
