My First Peace Lilly

Question
I received a peace Lilly last month for my birthday from my mom.  I keep it by the window where the light is daylight but not piercing sunlight as in the summer.  I water the plant every few days and I try not over water.  The green leafs look nice and healthy but the white leaf is browning.

My questions are:

I smoke.  I thought this would help the plant...lol?

What about temp?

What kind of fertilizer should I use?  How often?  And, how much?

Taffy

Answer
Taffy,

Smoke will not help your plant or you. Peace lillies need to get very dry between waterings. Watering once a week is enough and after Thansgiving until the middle of March you should only water every 10 days because when the days are shorter the plant uses less water. The white leaf is actually a flower and it is just fading, when you decide it is too ugly to look at any more cut it off at the base of the stem where it comes out of a leaf stem. Get a small box of Miracle Grow type fertilizer that you mix with water. Mix it according to the instructions on the box. Use it once a month but do not fertilize it in January and February. In march sprinkle a teaspoon of Epsom Salts on top of the soil before you water. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate and it triggers blooming plants to bloom more. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
