tangerine christmas cactus disaster

Question
I purchased a tangerine christmas cactus back in may and made the mistake of setting it on the floor indoors under a plant light and my cat got ahold of it and chewed it up pretty good.  There are only two spikes and they're only 3-4 inches in length and the cactus hasn't grown at all.  I had it out in full sun and kept the soil moist and that didn't seem to work so I put it on my shady patio where it gets direct sun from 4-8ish pm.  It just hasn't grown at all and I used compost and a succulent potting mixture in a 4" pot with drainage.  I also fertilize once every other week.  Please help!

Answer
The plant may be in shock.  These are pretty hardy plants.  The only two things I would do different is put it in a pot that just fits its root system until it starts to grow again.  And these plants do need bright indirect sunlight.  Direct sun is not good for most house plants.  There are exceptions to that of course.  Otherwise it sounds like you are doing everything right.  Just give it some time to recover.

Happy Growing
Kristina
