Zygocactus (Christmas Cactus)

Question
Hello Nick!
I bought a red-bloom zygo from a grocery store 4 days ago,and all their flowers are perfect inside the store. The zygo was good until it spent just two days in my house--now the blooms have closed and the tips of their petals look wrinkled and dark, although are still soft. It's 73 degrees inside and I've watered it a little just to the top of the soil, and it dries fast-I thought drying was a problem and watered it twice in one day. But I read a little about it, and I realize I did not let it get complete darkness like instructed; it has been sitting under my hallway light at night, and that it doesn't like as much water during the winter. Directions say it needs indoor indirect sunlight, but since it was wilting indoors and it's 55-60 degrees outside--should I stick it outiside in the shade? It still has healthy-looking buds that haven't bloomed yet, so I'm hoping they do.

Thanks for any help!

Answer
Hi Sam, you made two mistakes,,too high of temperature (73) it needs cooler...around 50-60,,and you need to limit its watering,.wait for it to dry out completely, then water it. One last thing, it needs high humidity,,which can be achieved by placing a saucer with pebbles in it and filled up to just below the top of the pebbles, and placing the plant on top of it. Nick
