Ficus and Schefflera plants

Question
I am having a problem with two of my indoor plants.  the first case is a ficas, it has become very brittle and the leaves are falling off in great numbers. I do not know if i'm over watering or not enough.  the second plant i'm having problems with is an schefflera plant.  the leaves are turning brown and also falling off in great numbers.  again, not sure if i'm over watering or not enough.

Answer
Hi John,

You are making the very common assumption that plant problems are caused by improper watering. However, the symptoms you described can also be attributed to improper light and improper pot size. Thus, I need more information from you.

How long have you had the plants in their present location? Tell me how far (in feet) each plant is from the nearest uncovered window. Is that window completely uncovered throughout the day? Tell me how tall your plants are and the diameter of their pots. (A photo sent to me at [email protected] would be particularly helpful. When were they last repotted? Finally, describe your watering routine to me.

I look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Will Creed
