corn plant sun burn

Question
i have a corn plant that i placed outside i live in the valley and it was 100 degrees. i know that was stupid but i am new at this. also can you grow a liriope big blue inside.  i got one thinking it was a houseplant from a friend who is just as clueless as i.

Answer
Tanisha,

How badly is your corn plant sunburned? You can cut the top of the plant off and it will slowly grow a whole new top. Just be sure to keep it indoors out of the sun but in very bright light. Do not water it with city water that has chlorine or flouride in it, that will cause brown spots on the leaves. Fertilize it once a month. Allow it to dry out totally, untill the pot feels light weight when you pick it up or tilt it, between waterings.

You probably could grow liriope big blue indoors but why? It grows so carefree in the soil outdoors anyplace from zone 5 to zone 10. If you really want to keep it indoors you will need to keep it in a very cool location during the winter months and keep it pretty dry. Water it just a little whenever it has been very dry for at least 3-4 days. Keep it in a very sunny location. This would be better planted outdoors and save your indoor space for a tropical houseplant. Good luuck.
