Planting seedlings

Question

I have never planted plants/flowers from seeds before.

Can you tell me how to plant plants/flowers from seedlings.

I was sent a bag of poppy seeds can't remember what type though. The package does not have any planting instructions. Is there anything I have to do to prep the seeds for growing or just sprinkle them on top of topsoil and water. Please advise me how to grow this beautiful plant in the house in a ordinary flower pot.

Also I have a cactus plant. I have it in direct sunlight. The plant is about 10 years old but doesn't seem to have grown much in the length of time I have had it. The plant is about The plant is about 7" and has only grown about 1" since I have had it. Why is it not growing. I started this plant along with some other plants that have grown to be huge, full and very healthy

Thank You

Answer
Poppy seeds need a very long time to germinate.  You can actually plant them now, in September, and give them up to 9-12 months to bloom.  That's true!  Make sure that the soil you plant them in is well-drained.  They cannot tolerate wet roots.  Other than this, they grow in almost any kind of soil.  All you do is just sprinkle them over the soil bed.  Make certain all stones, sticks and leaves have been raked away.  When they are sprinkled, you can just barely cover the seeds with soil.  Water lightly, then give them a good vacation in which to grow and germinate!  Once poppies have grown and bloomed successfully, they self-sow and come back year after year.  Good luck!
