peace lilliy

Question
I have a peace Lilly that was in a perfect location in my front room. It received good light & just the right amount of sun & water. It was flowering all the time & was really healthy until I repotted it. Now the leaves are limp(they  are deep green & aren't dying away)   it gets 1 bud then dies without it blooming.I have recently fertilized it to no avail. Please help as I love my peace Lilly & don't want to loose it.

Answer
Hi Gail,
Fertilizer should only be given to healthy plants during active growth periods. Fertilizer will not fix an unhealthy plant.
When you repotted it caused the plant to be stressed and go into shock. It sounds like you may have even caused some damage to the roots. Unnecessary repotting is the leading cause of a healthy plant to turn into an unhealthy plant.
The good news is that your Peace Lily will adjust and recover in time.
If you repotted into a bigger pot you should repot the Peace Lily back into the same size pot unless the plant was rootbound when you repotted to the bigger pot. You should never repot a plant into a pot more than 2 inches bigger than the pot it was in. Ideally it should only be no more than 1 inch bigger. When a plant is in a pot that is too big, the soil around the roots stays too wet too long and causes root rot.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
