Spiked Palm - yellowing leaves

Question
Hi,
I just recieved a spiked palm for my office. I am keeping the soil slightly damp, and it gets sunlight. However, several of the lower leaves on each stalk are turning yellow. The upper leaves look fine. Is the yellowing lower leaves normal?

Answer
Hi John,
Some yellowing of leaves is part of normal aging but I suspect that your problem is caused by overwatering. You should allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between watering.
Palms also need high humidity. You can raise the humidity around the plant by putting a tray of pebbles about half filled with water under it. Misting may help.
I would also recommend that you check regularly for insects.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
