banana plants

Question
I have a little banana plant and I've noticed several shoots popping up beside it. I have brushed away the soil only to find the shoots are attached to the plant. The shoots are getting rather big now and it is taking up a lot of my pot space. I live in the UK and cant keep the plant out-doors as it is to cold. Please help me get rid of these shoots without damaging the plant.

Answer
Lauren,

It will not hurt your banana to leave them alone but if you don't like the look and want to get rid of the shoots just take a sharp knife or scissors and remove them as close to the base as possible. More may grow and you should just cut them off as soon as they appear. You can take the shoots, dip them in rooting hormone and insert them in a fresh pot of soil and they should grow roots and you will hve clones to give to friends. Good luck.
