Did you get my pictures?

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I sent you a E-Mail to [email protected] (7-20-07)  I sent 2 pics.
I'm new at sending pics on the net. So I hope you where able to receive them.
I had that plant in water for two weeks. I think the window is in the east.
Should I wait till they root?  The tips are starting to go brown.
I just happen to find the plant site by accident. I'm

so glad I did. Can you tell me the Name of this plant
and how do I take it out of water and plant it. Care
for it. Also the plant on the couch (the small one)

I have miracle grow is it ok to use that for the
soil I just brought 20LBS of it?

ANSWER: Hi Tae,

Did you send the photos to me under the name s. smith? If so, your plant cutting is a Yucca elephantipes.

Wait until it has roots that are at least an inch long before you move it to a small pot filled with a porous potting mix.

Potted Yuccas like as much indoor light as you can provide. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry out in between thorough waterings. Keep them potbound and fertilize sparingly - monthly at half strewth. Rotate it regularly so that it grows straight.

20lbs of Miracle Gro should last you a lifetime!

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

QUESTION: Yucca elephantipes can you tell me why the tips are turning brown?  The plant
has been in water for 2 weeks. I don't have any roots on the plant yet. Should I
take it out of the water and just put it in water. It sitting on the kitchen  table.
It's not in a  window

Answer
It takes longer than 2 weeks for roots to form. In the interim, the cutting is not going to thrive so you will get some brown tips and some leaves will yellow and die. Keep it reasonably close to a sunny window. Use filtered or distilled water if your tap water is hard.
